Sasha Waltz's exhilarating choreographic opera »Dido and Aeneas« begins with a leap into the water. The underlying musical theatre by Henry Purcell condenses the heroic epic to a few plot elements: The gods accuse the Carthaginian queen and the Trojan prince of neglecting their duties and sabotage their love. Recently united, the couple has to part again; a human tragedy takes its course. When Aeneas leaves the Carthaginian queen Dido, she breathes out her life and love in her lament. In the opulent production by Sasha Waltz & Guests with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and the Vocalconsort Berlin, dance and opera merge into a single art form.
A production by Sasha Waltz & Guests and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin in co-production with the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg and the Opéra National de Montpellier.
