The search for creative challenges, new sound spaces and artistic encounters characterize Michael Wollny's extraordinary skills. The award-winning jazz musician is one of the most important German jazz pianists and now enjoys an exceptional position beyond Germany. His time as a young student in Würzburg was followed by the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra, the first Trio and, in 2001, an invitation to the HR Jazz Ensemble - where he met the great old jazz legends, including Albert Mangelsdorff, Christof Lauer and last but not least, Heinz Sauer. There, he also encountered musical dialogue at eye level. A principle, that continued in his Trio [em] from 2002 to 2013 and remains in placesince 2014 with the celebrated Michael Wollny Trio and since five years in the quartet with Nils Landgren, Lars Danielsson and Wolfgang Haffner. He also regularly inspires his audiences as a soloist, from the Rheingau Music Festival and the Elbjazz Hamburg to the Alte Oper Frankfurt Music Festival and the Konzerthaus Dortmund. He also teaches at the Leipzig University of Music and Theater.
