«Johannespassion« for tenor solo, harpsichord, organ and percussion after JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH

Benedikt Kristjánsson tenor

Elina Albach harpsichord, organ

Philipp Lamprecht percussion

The scenic potential of Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion, first performed in 1724, inspires conductors, composers and choreographers worldwide to create intense and enchanting performances. The musicians’ arrangement also gets under your skin. The condensation into a solo Passion invites an intense reflection on the Passion and its setting and turns it into an interactive singing experience. Conducted and led by the Icelandic tenor Benedikt Kristjánsson, the audience can sing along to the chorales, just like in the old days. The singer performs the remaining arias and recitatives on his own - clearly, confidently and without signs of fatigue for 80 minutes. The arrangement for tenor, percussion, organ and harpsichord won the OPUS KLASSIK prize for the most innovative concert 2019. In 2024, we will celebrate 300 years of performance practice of this Good Friday music at the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival.
