Philippe Herreweghe

Conductor

Born in Ghent, Philippe Herreweghe studied at the university and conservatory of his hometown. He co-founded numerous ensembles, including the Collegium Vocale Gent (1970) and the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées (1991). With these ensembles, the conductor continues to dedicate himself to a broad repertoire and will embark on a European and Asian tour in the coming season. He also regularly conducts major orchestras: Guest conductorships with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France are among the highlights of the 2022/23 season. For his impressive artistic work, he has been awarded the Belgian Order of the Officier des Arts et Lettres, an honorary doctorate from Ghent University and, in the recent past, the Musikfest Prize Bremen.
