Oslo Philharmonic

Orchestra

In September 1919, the Philharmonic Orchestra – later known as the Oslo Philharmonic – took the stage for its first public concert in the Norwegian capital. In the following century, the Philharmonic successfully established itself as one of the major international orchestras through tours and recordings under the direction of eminent chief conductors, including Herbert Blomstedt, Mariss Jansons, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and Wassili Petrenko. They opened their 101st season in August 2020 with new chief conductor Klaus Mäkelä. Under his baton, they continue touring in their fourth season and give concerts at both the Salzburg Festival and the Berlin Music Festival this year. Further appearances followed, including in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Paris Philharmonic, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, and the Vienna Konzerthaus.
