What connects us? Just as the Schlossfestspiele are doing with this year's festival question, Sjaella are also looking for what unites us in their concert: Hope, the desire for peace and freedom, the beauty of nature and spirituality can comfort us through times of unrest and connect us. From the mesmerizing Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo was inspired by the mesmerizing tranquillity of the Northern Lights and wrote the equally enchanting vocal work »Northern Lights«. Ēriks Ešenvalds also looks to the sky in »Stars« and integrates a surprising tool to create ethereal sounds: wine glasses. With these and other works primarily from the 20th and 21st centuries, the award-winning vocal sextet from Leipzig invites you to reflect on the unique atmosphere of St. Katharina. Its beguiling sound profile makes it quickly clear why it chose its name: Sjaella refers to the Swedish word for soul, »själ«. Full of sensitivity and depth, it creates concerts with heart and soul.
